Naphazoline is a decongestant which narrows the blood vessels in the eye, thereby reducing redness and inflammation (swelling). Chlorpheniramine Maleate is an antiallergic. It blocks the action of a chemical messenger (histamine) which is responsible for red, itchy, watery eyes. Methylcellulose is a lubricant similar to natural tears. It provides temporary relief from burning and discomfort in the eye. Phenyl Mercuric Nitrate is an antimicrobial preservative. If you wear soft contact lenses, remove them before using the drops and wait for at least 15 minutes before putting them back in.
